it's us, not our leaders

People desire security, making them prone to be flattered by leaders' promises of security. However, the main fault in idolizing leadership lies with us, not our leaders. Nevertheless, leaders should constantly point away from them and towards Christ as having the power to save. They should begin by denouncing the priestcraft of Official Declaration 1 which says the president can't lead us astray.

Why wait to disavow?

You, the regular rank-and-file member, must ask yourself why leadership does not disavow the false, flattering lie of the devil (secretly added in 1984 to OD1) that the president of the church can't lead the church astray. This creates idolatry of the leaders. Enforcing this priestcraft by censoring or casting out anybody who exposes the priestcraft results in the destruction of the people (see Alma 1:12 and Ether 2:8-9).
